Tonight I checked into a Motel 6 in South Seattle. Sitting behind the counter was a slim, ancient black man wearing a navy-blue 3-piece suit with matching Fedora. He was so absorbed in his horse racing form that he failed to notice me for close to a minute. When he did notice me he was as formal and polite as I would expect of a man thus attired – a real gentleman. How I pity those who only stay in high-class establishments. They miss out on meeting so many interesting people.

Tonight is a Red Letter night for me in regards to the social responsibility – correction, the GLOBAL responsibility of dining alone in a Mexican restaurant. Of course the root problem is that I have no one to help me eat all the chips and salsa, the rice and beans and enough flour tortillas to carpet the entire men’s restroom at your typical Costco store. I sincerely hate to waste food, so I covertly made a long slit in the bottom of my bench seat cushion and dumped all my leftovers in there. The mice, rats and roaches will certainly have a feast tonight. If God concerns himself with a single sparrow, I can hardly imagine his face when he learns of my humanitarian deed tonight!
